Why Do People Rebel At The End Of the Millennial Kingdom?
Why Do People Rebel At The End Of the Millennial Kingdom?
You’d think after 1,000 years of peace, justice, and King Jesus reigning from Jerusalem, rebellion would be unthinkable… yet it happens. Why?
(Revelation 20:7–9)
“A thousand years of peace ends in war—not because of bad leadership, but because of bad hearts.”
— Ed Hindson

1. The Human Heart Is Still Depraved
Even in a world without war, poverty, or Satan, people born during the Millennium still carry the sin nature (Isaiah 65:20).
“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”
— Jeremiah 17:9
Jesus will rule with perfect justice—but many will only submit outwardly, not surrender inwardly.
⸻
2. Worship in Jerusalem Will Be Mandatory
“Then everyone who survives of all the nations… shall go up year after year to worship the King… and to keep the Feast of Booths.”
— Zechariah 14:16
This is non-negotiable. Those who refuse will face drought (vv. 17–19).
Resentment will smolder in the hearts of the proud.
Hidden Grievances During the Millennium
• “Why Jerusalem?”
• “Why a Jewish King?”
• “Why these ancient feasts?”
• “Why can’t I worship my own way?”
These whispers will become war cries when Satan is loosed.
⸻
3. Resentment and Pride Will Brew Beneath the Surface
Though Satan is bound at this time (Revelation 20:2), the seeds of rebellion will fester.
People will grow weary of submission, tradition, and divine authority.
“Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”
— Psalm 2:3
The spirit of rebellion doesn’t die—it hides, waiting.
⸻
4. Satan Will Exploit This Resentment
“When the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released… and will come out to deceive the nations… to gather them for battle.”
— Revelation 20:7–8
He won’t need to create rebellion—he’ll ignite what’s already there.
He’ll fan the flames of pride, resentment, and hatred for Jesus’ authority.
The nations will rise like the sand of the sea—not because God failed, but because man refuses to repent.
⸻
5. This Proves God’s Justice—and Humanity’s Need for Grace
Even with the ideal government, perfect law, and divine leadership, the unredeemed will still rebel.
This isn’t a failure of the Kingdom
• Sin is not caused by environment
• Satan is not the only problem
• Only regeneration can change the heart
“The Millennium is the last great test of fallen humanity under the most ideal circumstances… and it ends in open rebellion.”
— John F. Walvoord

Historical Echoes of Rebellion in Perfect Conditions
• Eden: Sin in paradise (Genesis 3)
• Wilderness: Rebellion with daily miracles (Numbers 14)
• Earthly Ministry: Judas betrayed the perfect Teacher (Luke 22:48)
• Millennium: Rejection of the perfect King
“They soon forgot His works; they did not wait for His counsel.” — Psalm 106:13
⸻
The final rebellion is not a glitch—it is the last unmasking of the human heart without Christ.
Satan will exploit:
• the resentment of required worship
• the pride of the nations
• and the hatred of divine authority
But Jesus will crush the rebellion with fire from heaven (Revelation 20:9).
Then comes the Great White Throne… and eternity begins.

If people reject Jesus in person, on David’s throne, with no devil to blame,
what excuse will you offer today?
“God has no grandchildren.”
— Adrian Rogers
Each person must come to Christ personally.
Faith cannot be inherited—not in the Millennium, and not today.
“Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” — Hebrews 4:7
Even in a world ruled by Jesus, only those born again will truly love the King.
