Seven signs that may indicate a church may be drifting into apostasy

Here are seven signs that may indicate a church may be drifting into apostasy. 1.Compromising Biblical Truth – Teaching that contradicts God’s Word or prioritizing cultural acceptance over sound doctrine. •“For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions.” (2 Timothy 4:3) 2.Rejecting the Authority of Scripture – Elevating human wisdom (Gnosticism) emotions, or new revelations (NAR) above the Bible. •“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16) 3.Tolerating Pride or Endorsing Sin – Excusing or celebrating sin rather than calling for repentance. •“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.” (Isaiah 5:20) •“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) 4.Denying or Distorting the Gospel – Preaching a false gospel of works, prosperity, or universal salvation. •“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8) 5.Lack of Holiness and Discipleship – Entertaining the world rather than calling believers to holiness and obedience. •“Pursue peace with everyone, and holiness—without it no one will see the Lord.” (Hebrews 12:14) •“They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works.” (Titus 1:16) 6.Diminishing or Rejecting Israel’s Role in God’s Plan – Teaching that the Church has replaced Israel (Supersessionism), denying God’s ongoing covenant with them, or neglecting Israel’s role in prophecy. •“I ask, then, has God rejected his people? By no means!” (Romans 11:1) •“Through their trespass salvation has come to the Gentiles, so as to make Israel jealous.” (Romans 11:11) 7.Failing to Teach the Whole Counsel of God – Picking and choosing Scripture while neglecting difficult doctrines, “unhitching” from The Old Testament, avoiding prophecy, or allegorizing clear biblical promises. •“For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.” (Acts 20:27) •“No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.” (2 Peter 1:20) A church that drifts in these areas is in danger of apostasy. Believers should be discerning and hold fast to biblical truth (Jude 3-4).
