Question for those who adhere to Replacement Theology. Do you set Jerusalem above your highest joy? Psalm 137:5-6: “If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its skill! Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth, if I do not remember you, if I do not set Jerusalem above my highest joy!” This psalm reflects the deep longing of the Jewish people for their homeland and the centrality of Jerusalem in their identity, particularly during their exile in Babylon. It encapsulates their hope and prayer to return to the holy city. God’s Eternal Covenant with Israel 1.The Land and the People are Bound by Covenant: •Genesis 17:7-8: “And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession.” •God’s covenant with Abraham is eternal and irrevocable, including the promise of the land. 2.The Yearning for Jerusalem is Prophetic: •Isaiah 62:6-7: “On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. You who put the LORD in remembrance, take no rest, and give him no rest until he establishes Jerusalem and makes it a praise in the earth.” •This reflects God’s intention for Jerusalem to remain central to His plan. Replacement Theology Overlooks Prophetic Fulfillment 1.Israel’s Restoration is Promised: •Amos 9:14-15: “I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they shall rebuild the ruined cities and inhabit them… I will plant them on their land, and they shall never again be uprooted.” •The modern return of Jews to Israel and their longing for Jerusalem are clear fulfillments of prophecy. 2.Paul Warned Against Arrogance Toward Israel: •Romans 11:18-20: “Do not be arrogant toward the branches… they were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith.” •The church is grafted into the promises of Israel, not a replacement for them. Why the Jewish Longing for Jerusalem Matters Those who reject Replacement Theology understand that the Jewish people’s connection to Jerusalem is a fulfillment of God’s promises and a sign of His faithfulness. The yearning for Jerusalem reflects their covenant relationship with God, which remains central to His redemptive plan. •Psalm 122:6: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! May they be secure who love you!” Those who honor God’s Word recognize Jerusalem’s prophetic role and the Jewish people’s place in His eternal plan.
