Is God’s Promise of the Land to Israel Still in Effect?
The land promised to Israel is a central theme in biblical prophecy, God’s covenants, and eschatology. It is not just symbolic but an everlasting, unconditional promise that remains significant today and in the future Millennial Kingdom.
1. The Land is an Everlasting Covenant
Genesis 15:18-21 – “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates.”
•God unconditionally gave this land to Abraham and his descendants.
•The boundaries far exceed modern Israel’s borders, meaning full fulfillment is still future.
Genesis 17:7-8 – “I will establish My covenant… for an everlasting possession.”
•This is an eternal promise, meaning it cannot be revoked.
•If the covenant is everlasting, then Israel’s right to the land is everlasting.
Psalm 105:8-11 – “He remembers His covenant forever… To you I will give the land of Canaan.”
•The land promise is not temporary—it is still active.
2. The Land Belongs to Israel, Not the Nations
Leviticus 25:23 – “The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine.”
•The land belongs to God, and He gave it to Israel.
•No nation, government, or UN resolution can revoke God’s decree.
Joel 3:2 – “I will enter into judgment… on account of My people, My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; they have also divided up My land.”
•God will judge nations for dividing Israel’s land, proving He still claims ownership.
Ezekiel 36:24 – “I will take you from among the nations, gather you out of all countries, and bring you into your own land.”
•This prophecy began fulfillment in 1948 (Israel’s rebirth) and continues today.
3. The Land is Key to the Millennial Kingdom
Zechariah 14:4-9 – “In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives… The Lord shall be King over all the earth.”
•Jesus physically returns to Jerusalem and reigns from there.
Ezekiel 48 – Describes Israel’s land division during the Millennium.
•Each tribe receives a portion, proving the land still belongs to Israel.
Isaiah 2:2-3 – “The law will go forth from Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”
•Jerusalem will be the center of Christ’s global government.
4. The Land is Essential to God’s Faithfulness
Romans 11:1 – “Has God cast away His people? Certainly not!”
•If God rejected Israel, then His land promise would be broken—but Paul confirms Israel is not forsaken.
Jeremiah 31:35-37 – “If these ordinances depart from before Me… then the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever.”
•As long as the sun, moon, and stars exist, Israel remains God’s chosen nation.
5. Those Who Bless or Curse Israel Are Judged
Genesis 12:3 – “I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you.”
•Nations that support Israel are blessed.
•Nations that oppose Israel or divide its land face God’s judgment.
Zechariah 12:9 – “It shall be in that day that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”
•God Himself will fight against those who oppose Israel’s land.
