Genesis 49:10-12 – A Prophecy of Messiah? 10 – “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.” 11 – “Binding his foal unto the vine, and his ass’s colt unto the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes.” 12 – “His eyes shall be red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.” Verse 10 – The Kingship of יהודה (Judah) •“The sceptre (שֵׁבֶט, shevet) shall not depart from Judah” – The ruling staff belongs to Judah’s line, fulfilled in David and ultimately Messiah (מָשִׁיחַ, Mashiach) (Revelation 5:5). •“Until Shiloh (שִׁילֹה) come” – A Messianic title meaning “He to whom it belongs” or “Peace-bringer” (Isaiah 9:6). •“Unto him shall the gathering of the people be” – The nations will one day submit to Messiah (Psalm 2:8, Zechariah 14:9). Verse 11 – The Blood-Soaked Imagery of Messiah •“Binding his foal to the vine” – A donkey (חֲמוֹר, chamor) represents a peaceful king (Zechariah 9:9, Matthew 21:5). •“He washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes” – •Symbolizes His sacrifice (Matthew 26:28). •Also foreshadows His second coming in judgment (Isaiah 63:2-3, Revelation 19:13-15). Verse 12 – The Strength and Blessing of Messiah •“His eyes red with wine” – Could signify joy, vitality, or divine wrath (Revelation 19:15). •“Teeth white with milk” – Represents abundance, purity, and blessing (Isaiah 55:1, John 6:35). Genesis 49:10-12 paints a powerful portrait of Messiah Yeshua (יֵשׁוּעַ)—the Lion of Judah, the sacrificial Redeemer, and the coming King who will rule the nations!
