Four Noble Virtues of Jeremiah the Prophet | Jeremiah 26:12-15 •At a time (before the Babylonian captivity) when the “shepherds” (Ie prophets, priests, elders, kings) were perverting, ignoring, or inventing the Word of the Lord… Jeremiah, seemingly a “lone wolf” (but not so according to the chapter), comes before the people of Judah (Jer 26:2) demonstrating the qualities of the called: 1. Prudence 2. Love 3. Humility 4. Courage “Then Jeremiah spoke to all the princes and all the people, saying: “The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city with all the words that you have heard. Now therefore, amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; then the LORD will relent concerning the doom that He has pronounced against you. As for me, here I am, in your hand; do with me as seems good and proper to you. But know for certain that if you put me to death, you will surely bring innocent blood on yourselves, on this city, and on its inhabitants; for truly the LORD has sent me to you to speak all these words in your hearing.” —Jeremiah 26:12-15 Vs 12 · PRUDENCE in proclaiming his divine mission. Vs 13 · LOVE in exhorting his enemies to repent. Vs 14 · HUMILITY in acknowledging their power over him. Vs 15a · COURAGE in telling them God would avenge his death. Vs 15b · FEARLESSNESS before death. (List Source: John Trapp - Bible Commentator) •The Spirit of our interactions must match the Spirit of the actual message. Even on a platform (Ie X) where the Word of the Lord is seemingly drowned out, we must be careful when presenting the Word of God, to present it accurately in the fear of the Lord: “Thus says the LORD: ‘Stand in the court of the LORD’s house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’s house, all the words that I command you to speak to them. Do not diminish a word.” —Jeremiah 26:2
